  • Jacob Thomas, 7th grader, entered the Wildlife  in North Carolina Photo Competition.  His photo of a green tree frog was one of the photos chosen to be published in the Jan/Feb edition of Wildlife in North Carolina Magazine .  He received an honorable mention in the 12 and under category!  Congratulations Jacob!

  • Congratulations to Daniel Stanford, 8th grade Social Studies teacher and Katie Carelock, 6th grade Math teacher for receiving their National Board Certification.

  • Senator Tommy Tucker recently visited Parkwood Middle School’s 6th grade students. He spoke to Mrs. Elliott’s three Language Arts classes in response to the letters students wrote to him. Students wrote persuasive business format letters on a topic that they considered relevant and important to them.

Running for U - 5k Run/Walk for Union County Teachers photo

Running for U - 5k Run/Walk for Union County Teachers

On Saturday, June 1, 2013, runners and walkers will take to the streets of Historic Downtown Monroe to show their support of Union County teachers. All proceeds from this event will go to UCPS teachers through the classroom mini-grant program administered by the Union County Education Foundation. These mini-grants help our teachers purchase items for use in their classrooms.

Lunch at "Parkwood Place"

On March 28th 2013, Parkwood Middle School opened its first restaurant, Parkwood Place…for one day at least. Ms. Powell’s students worked together to host a luncheon for several teachers and county workers.
Under the guidance of Ms. Powell, Mr. Gross, Ms. Camp, and Ms. Short, the students created a cozy atmosphere where guests felt as pampered and invited as they would at any local restaurant. The students showcased their newly aquired skills, serving as waiters, waitresses, hostess, greeters, and servers. It was their job to seat guests, take orders and serve food.
